MyGridCheck is committed to protecting your privacy. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our service.
Information We Collect
Analytics Data
We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-friendly analytics service, to understand how visitors use our site. Plausible collects:
- Page views and navigation patterns
- Browser type and device information (without identifying you)
- Referral sources (where you came from)
- Approximate geographic location (country/region level only)
Plausible does NOT use cookies, does NOT track you across websites, and does NOT collect personally identifiable information. All data is aggregated and anonymous. Learn more at Plausible's privacy page.
Outage Data
MyGridCheck displays publicly available outage information from utility providers. This data is collected directly from provider APIs and includes:
- Outage locations (latitude/longitude coordinates)
- Number of customers affected
- Estimated restoration times
- Outage status and cause information
We do NOT collect, store, or track any information about which outages you view or interact with.
How We Use Information
The information we collect is used exclusively to:
- Understand general usage patterns to improve the service
- Display aggregated outage information from utility providers
- Maintain and improve site performance
We do NOT sell, rent, or share any information with third parties for marketing purposes.
Third-Party Services
Analytics
Plausible Analytics - Privacy-friendly analytics hosted in the EU. View their data policy.
Mapping
Mapbox - Provides map visualization. Map tiles are loaded from Mapbox servers when you view the map. View Mapbox privacy policy.
Utility Data Sources
We retrieve outage data from the following utility providers' public APIs:
- Puget Sound Energy (PSE)
- Seattle City Light (SCL)
- Peninsula Light (PenLight)
- Tacoma Power
- Snohomish Public Utility District (SnoPUD)
Your use of MyGridCheck does NOT share any information with these utility providers.
Data Storage and Security
Outage data is cached temporarily in our database to improve performance and reduce load on utility provider systems. This data is:
- Updated every 4 minutes from provider APIs
- Stored in a secure cloud database (Supabase)
- Automatically cleaned up as outages are resolved
- Not linked to any individual users
Cookies and Tracking
MyGridCheck does NOT use cookies for tracking purposes. The only data stored in your browser is:
- Connection tokens for real-time updates (session-based, not persistent)
- No personal information or browsing history is stored
Your Rights
Since we don't collect personally identifiable information, there is no personal data to request, modify, or delete. You can use MyGridCheck completely anonymously.
You can opt out of analytics by:
- Using browser extensions like uBlock Origin
- Enabling "Do Not Track" in your browser
- Blocking the Plausible script domain
Children's Privacy
MyGridCheck does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. Our service is a public utility information tool that does not require or collect personal information from users of any age.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The "Last Updated" date at the top indicates when changes were last made. Continued use of MyGridCheck after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
